University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences

Construction teams continue to prepare the outpatient medical facility for opening day.

Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood is one of the most diverse and sought-after areas by city dwellers and businesses. The University of Chicago Medicine will soon call this neighborhood home when it opens its latest outpatient medical facility, the Center for Advanced Care at South Loop (CAC-SL), in late February.

University of Chicago Medicine teams are working diligently to complete the 18,000-square-foot clinic.  It is located on the second floor of the Southgate Market’s retail center. It will offer services including, but not limited to, primary care, cardiology, orthopedics and sports medicine, as well as obstetrics-gynecology, reproductive and other select services for women.

Here is an update on this key construction project:

Hiring

More than 80 medical practitioners will staff this location. Physicians who will practice in the CAC-SL have been hiredOther roles — including medical assistants, nurses, patient concierge and technologists — need to be filled. Internal candidates interested in applying for positions should visit the new employee portal, ucmcareers.com/internaljobs. External candidates interested in applying for positions should visit ucmcareers.com.

Construction

Crews are still working to complete construction by end of the year. Once construction is complete, furniture, hardware and other equipment will be moved into the facility, and the organization will prepare to load supplies and other materials.

 Day in the Life (DITL)

This exercise allows the project team to “test” the facility and make any necessary adjustments before opening day. There are two DITLs scheduled for January.
