University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences

Marco Capicchioni, vice president of Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, greeting staff members at the June 23 employee appreciation event.

Welcome to the first issue of Building at the Forefront, our NEW monthly newsletter to keep you informed of news and updates from the Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction (FPD&C) department.

This newsletter comes at a wonderful time. There are numerous initiatives in progress at the University of Chicago Medicine to ensure we continue to provide the highest quality of care for our patients and remain competitive in a changing health care landscape.

As this is a high priority for FPD&C, Building at the Forefront will highlight key construction and development projects that focus on patient satisfaction and that impact long-term growth and sustainability.

FPD&C works with many departments across the organization to make sure we are including key stakeholders in the planning and decision-making process. We have created a taskforce, known as HUB II, which is comprised of senior leaders, to address complex issues and devise solutions that can impact progress of these high-level projects. More about this committee and key projects will be shared in the upcoming months.

This is a great segue to the focus of the first issue of Building at the Forefront – people. FPD&C has a team of dedicated employees who are committed to their work and the goals of the organization.

You will be introduced to Deb Antes, our new director of Space Planning & Architectural Services, who brings more than 25 years of experience in health care architecture to her new role. And you’ll also learn more about Ron O’Drobinak, a dedicated employee who spent more than 42 years in FPD&C as a project manager. Sadly, Ron recently passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Enjoy our inaugural issue and we look forward to working with you!
