University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences

The Center for Advanced Care at Orland Park will open its doors in December 2016. The University of Chicago Medicine’s largest offsite ambulatory facility will also become the home of CVS Health, a partnership that will further the institution’s mission to enhance the quality of care for patients.

CVS Health will allow UChicago Medicine to have access to a patient’s prescription and visit information. This will be achieved by enabling communication between the electronic health record systems from both institutions.

When a patient’s record is updated at the Medical Center, CVS Health’s medical practitioners will be able to see the updated record in their system and vice versa. But this feature is only available to patients who are also clients of CVS Health.

Before any medical information can be shared, patients must give their consent to avoid violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a law that requires the protection and confidential handling of health information.

The CVS Health collaboration will also:

·         Improve care coordination for UChicago Medicine patients seen at MinuteClinic locations;

·         Develop and implement strategies to help patients manage chronic diseases and overall wellness, and;

·         Provide information to help patients find a primary care physician, offering a greater opportunity for continuity of health care services.

In addition, patients will also have access to clinical support, medication counseling, chronic disease monitoring and wellness programs at CVS/pharmacy stores and MinuteClinic.

UChicago Medicine is now five months into the construction of the Center for Advanced Care at Orland Park. Located at the corner of 143rd Street and LaGrange Road in the Main Street Triangle of downtown Orland Park, the facility will have 80 exam rooms that will support services such as primary care, women’s health and comprehensive diabetes. CVS will occupy more than 13,000-square-feet of space on the first floor of the multi-specialty clinic.

The Village of Orland Park is developing a 530-space, above-ground parking structure for the clinic.
