University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences

The Physical Plant Department is the primary point of contact for service and maintenance requests for the University of Chicago Medicine and select Biological Sciences Division (BSD) buildings. We evaluate, prioritize, dispatch and follow customer work requests through to completion to ensure the standards for safe, high quality and cost effective building environments are met. We are responsible for repair and maintenance of all the medical center physical plant and portions of the BSD physical plant (Biological Sciences Learning Center, Cummings Life Science Center, Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery, Kovler and the MRS Building). Typical repair and maintenance service includes the following:

  • Heating, cooling and ventilation
  • Plumbing
  • Refrigeration
  • Electrical systems
  • Nurse call system
  • Window air conditioners
  • Lighting and light bulb replacement
  • Carpentry
  • Painting and plastering
  • Signs
  • Tube system Directory Pneumatic Tube Stations
  • Elevators

Please be prepared to provide the building and room number for the area requiring service (if a room number is not designated, please give the closest available room number and indicate its relative location to the area needing service). In the Gordon Center for Integrative Science and Hull Court Buildings (Anatomy, Erman, Zoology) University Facilities Services should be contacted at 773-834-1414 to request a service.
